Eduardo Herrán Gómez de la Torre, Professional pilot, specialized in Aerial Photography, studies in Archaeology, Director of the Institute for Aerial-Archaeology Investigations, He was the author and promoter of the Nasca Lines and Geoglyphes to be acknowledged and recongnized by the UNESCO as part of the special places in this planet known as Cultural World Heritage in 1995. Since 1978 he has been flying over this territory as a chief pilot for Aerocondor, pioneer company on this activity in Peru, reaching more than 12,000 flight hours of aerial explorations, he has discovered hundreds of unpublished figures from above. The “Nasca World Heritage Project” took him to many different countries, to get the support needed to that purpose, being Mexico, the first country receiving the “Nasca a vuelo de Condor” exhibition. This event was organized by the Panamerican Institute of Geography and History (OAS) in 1992. Thanks to the support of the Secretary General, Dr.Chester Zelaya Woodman, this project was carried out successfully. He has given a lecture on the subject in many of the most important universities in his country.and also at La Sorbonne in Paris, the Societe de Geographie in France, IPGH-OAS, the UNAM in Mexico among others. But the official presentation of Nasca took place at the UNESCO head office in Paris in 1994, allowing Nasca to be part of this exclusive list. He has worked and collaborated with scientists and specialists llike Dr. Maria Reiche from Germany, whom he admires and sees as an example of perseverance, Dr.Guiseppe Oreficci, Italian Archaeologist whom he has been working with for 16 years, Dr. Gary Hurton, North American anthropologist, Dr. Helaine Silverman of the University of Illinois, Dr. Percis Clarkson of the University of Ontario, Dr. Guy Barlan, french nuclear physicist, Dr. Izumi Shimada from Japan, and also with National Geographic photographer Toshi Sakai and GEO photographer Pierre Clemenceau. He also took part as specialist advisor in various documentaries for TV and movies such as, Japanese NHK, German ZDF, and recently for Time- Life in the Documentary entitled “Lost Civilizations: The Secret of the Ancestors”, in 1995. widely broadcast by Discovery Channel. In 1996, he was the advisor for the documentary produced by American ABC and german ZDF, with Dr. Eric von Daniken., the world premiere was in December 1996. There are paraglidings, ultralights and hang-gliders included among the planes he pilots in his explorations. That is why he was granted the Colibri Award,the highest honor given to ultralight pilots for contributions to humanity, by the Federation Aeronautique Internationale in Paris in 1987. In this case, archaeology, using this kind of sports planes as flying pads, to take pictures of unpublished aerial photographs. As a result of these high risk investigations and during a paragliding flight taking pictures of condors, he had an accident, injuring his right shoulder, and he was unfit for working several months. After that time, he recovered thanks to the management tasks done by Doctor Jorge Cervantes, who helped him at a hospital in Mexico city. At present he is doing fine and in perfect health, thanks to the aid of his friend Jorge. Continuing on with his work, he is devoted to some other important projects, one of them is called “Protejamos Nasca “ (Let’s protect Nasca), trying to protect the Nasca Plains from all kinds of damages; to carry out this task, there have been made some important agreements, associating all the Air Companies currently operating on this area, also involving the Tourist Police department, etc. Another project is publishing a book, CD and DVD entitled “Nasca World Heritage”, and everyone interested on these last works, regarding the geographical location of each and everyone of the geoglyphs will have free access to high technology computerized maps and to the mythical and transcendental angle of this one of a kind and unique monument of the world. |

especializado en Aerofotografía, ha realizado estudios de arqueología,
es Director del Instituto de Investigaciones Aeroarqueológicas, fue
autor y promotor del proyecto para que las Líneas y Geoglifos de Nasca
sean reconocidas por la UNESCO como parte de la lista de los lugares
especiales del planeta que ostentan el título de Patrimonio Cultural de
la Humanidad, hecho que ocurrió el año 1,995. El proyecto “Nasca Patrimonio Mundial” lo llevó a recorrer distintos países, para conseguir el apoyo necesario para tan noble fin; siendo México el primer país en recibir la exposición “Nasca a Vuelo de cóndor”. Este
evento organizado por el Instituto Panamericano de Geografía e Historia
de la OEA en 1,992. Gracias al apoyo de su secretario General el Dr.
Chester Zelaya Woodman, el proyecto se llevó a cabo con éxito. Debido al alto riesgo que demanda este tipo de investigaciones también tuvo consecuencias, durante un vuelo en parapente para fotografiar cóndores; sufrió un accidente que le afectó seriamente el hombro derecho, el cual lo dejo inhabilitado varios meses. Gracias a las gestiones realizadas por el Doctor Jorge Cervantes, persona que lo ayudó en el hospital de México. Actualmente Eduardo se encuentra en perfectas condiciones gracias a la ayuda de su amigo Don Jorge. Continuando su trabajo esta ahora dedicado a otros proyectos importantes uno de ellos es “PROTEJAMOS NASCA”, que intenta evitar todo tipo de daños a la pampa de Nasca para lo cual se han efectuado importantes convenios que asocian a todas las empresas aéreas que operan actualmente la zona, así como la policía de turismo, etc. Otro de sus proyectos es publicar el libro, CD y DVD “NASCA PATRIMONIO MUNDIAL”; que permitirá tener acceso a todos los interesados en los últimos trabajos en materia de ubicación geográfica de cada uno de los geoglífos con mapas y dibujos realizados con lo último en tecnología computarizada así como el ángulo mítico y trascendente de este monumento único de su género en el mundo. |
